Biggest race weekend 2010
Just like last year The magazine Bilsport arranged their Actionmeet
at the same weekend as Rod N Kustom had the Mälardalen Open at Kjula.
Since we didnt have any chanse of winning the series at Kjula,
we chose to race at Mantorp Park friday-saturday and then race on Kjula on sunday.
The weather forecasts sayed rain more or less all weekend all over the country...
...so we figured it would be less.
The weather didnt look too promising on our way to Mantorp,
but as we arrived it turned out to be really good.
In our first run we broke second gears synchro and crossed the finnish line at some 217kmh.
The safety crew got mad and ordered me to pull the shout at all times.
I pretty much told him he was an idiot and went back to the pit.
We put in a new gear set but something didnt feel really right with the new gear...
...and we fealt correct since we blew the new 2nd gear in the burnout.
We got a guy to bring some spare gears from the garage 300km from the track,
but as he arrived it turned out he just brought broken gears...
...so a new guy had to bring the correct gears.
He arrived right after midnight. Then we put in a new set.
As we waited we spent some time in the beer tents since it was raining heavily during the eventing.
Saturday offered great weather again.
In my first round I lost the alternator belt causing the fuel pump belt to come off too.
That was really a shame as we set a new PB in 60ft: 1,44s!
At lunch Robert Uhr arrived to the track with his CrMo Saab 93.
He ran 10,0 in his first run. I ran 9,68 right after.
We arranged a mach race between our cars.
I however had programmed a kitten-boost cut causing my car to die right before I shoud shift to 2nd gear.
That made Robert to be able to pass me and then I couldnt get by him and I lost the race.
None of us made any too impressing times but it was really great fun.
He ran 9,96 in his next run and I ran 9,54.
9,54-249kmh with 1,46 in 60ft!
It was actually time to head for Kjula but we just had to get one more run at Mantorp before we leaved.
The cluch however had different plans. It got overheated in the burnout causing the car to bog in the start.
On our way to Kjula it started raining and it didnt stop until we had put up all our tents in the pit.
Sunday offered good weather for racing all day.
First run in the morning we ran 9,75-243kmh with 1,51 in 60ft.
-And people were complaining at the track?
I think it is rather unfair to compare Kjula, wich is a small concrete airfield with Mantorp Park
where they ran the FIA Euopean Dragrace Championship one week earlier.
Second run we got a machrace agains Kenny Åsbring in his V8 Volvo 242.
I fumblede bigtime in that round, overstaged and all kinds of noob misstakes.
Third run I was alot more focused, ran 1,47s in 60ft with a 0,11s in reaction time.
Unfortunally the second gears synchro didnt like me verry much this weekend and broke again...
...for the third time.
We loaded the car, wached the finals and left the track around 16.00.
Just as we left the track it started raining again.
In two weeks we are heading off for a race Poland, Koszalin.
Until then We have to really try to understand what the week point with the synchros are,
and correct them. (of course)
