TSDS Finals 15-17 Augusti-2008

The weekend started out 08:05 thurstay morning with me going to the wreckers bying two new gearboxes. Went directly to the garage to replace the gear set in the Wok. The set we put in at Mantorp didnt really have the desired ratios, but the ones I bought in the morning had.
Tested all gears before we loaded the truck. Elmer and Fille couldnt leave town at 15:00 like me and Nalle, so they went later. Maybe not the smartest move in history to get the car with tools ant tents up last, but it seemed not like a big deal then.

Me, Nalle and the Wok arrived at the track around 22:00 since we stopped to buy breakfast on our way.
4 litres of vitaminized juice, two boxes of cookies and som beer. (the beer wasnt for breakfast ofcourse). Fille and Elmer had other ideas of how a breakfast should be served, but me and Nalle were all satisfyed with the breakfast.

Ah, whell. Since we didnt have any tools or tents for the Wok we did what we could. We had our sleeping tents in the Wok so we put them together and had a couple of beers while waiting for Fille.
Fille arrived to the track around 01:00 with the tools. When he arrived we just covered the tools and went to sleep. Sundsvall is situated aprox. 400km north of Stockholm, and there was a quite obvious difference in temperature.

Friday morning I jumped out of my tent a couple of minutes to seven, and rolled down to the scruteneering around 07:15.
Too bad it didnt open until 08:00. Ah, we got second place in the que anyway.

Qualifyings started at 09:30. The track were pretty cold and we went out as third class, so no one had any big expectations. I ran a 60ft at 1,89s wich pretty much confirms that. Even with such a poor 60ft I ran 10,66-225kmh.

It really fealt like we were missing power. We have had 238kmh before. We got pretty heavy tyre shakes in first gear too, so we adjusted the cluch to try and get over that. We didnt got away completely without tyre shake in the second round either, but it was much better.
In second round we ran 1,65s 60ft 10,18-227kmh.
That seemed promising, but we still wondered where the speed had gone.

After searching thrue the logs we discovered that the lost power was simply a boost problem.
We never ever got more than 30psi. The gear stick sensors that tells the boostcontroller to increase boost seemed like a possible problem, so we did some changes on them.
Third round we ran 1,69s 60ft. 10,14-229kmh.
Tyre shakes more like the first round, alot better time but still...
...only 30psi boost.

After some serious tests of the boostcontroller it turned out to be a conector to one of the boost selenoids that had broken. I soldered it, but the day had turned into evening and the track had closed, so we had to wait until saturday for our next round.

Saturday morning there were some seven classes or so before us, so the track would be in good shape for us.
Unfortunally the engine started to missfire and run on three cylinders after the burnout.

It turned out to be a lost lashcap...
...and the little bugger broke off its valve too.

We quickly ripped off the head and discovered that the valves seat had suvived fine.
Since we had no plans for this kind of problem, we had no extra valves with us. After some searching we got hold of a guy in stockholm that went to our garage, got some valves and valve grinding tools and drove the 400kms to us in Sundsvall.
Unfortunally when he was almost in Sundsvall we noticed the head gasket had seen better days. It wasnt broken, yet, but is was soon to go...
...and we couldnt get a new one and thereby the race was over.

Sunday we spent on the side of the track until around 14:00 when we decided to leave.
Just as clever as sending the tools in the last car on our way up, Fille went with the tools ahead of me and Nalle on our way home. Only some 50km from Sundsvall we lost the fuel tank of the truck...

Some 200km from Sundsvall we stopped to refuel and to get some coffe.
Just as we left the exit after getting coffe a tyre exploaded and we had to pull over again.

The spare were already in use, but this truck has twin tyres so usually theres no problem continuing on one. It took a while to remove the broken tyre though. Just as long as it takes to transform the newly bought cup of hot coffe into a cup of brown piss.
The inner tyre had too little air, and I didnt dare to drive faster than 45kmh to the next petrol station. After filling it up we continued in 75-80kmh the remaining 200kms.
We got to the garage around 21:00. Unloaded and went home to sleep.

Here is the fridays timelips:

Next weekend there is a "local" race at Kjula-Eskilstuna only 80km from Stockholm.
