It ain't over yet!
Just because it was Cupfinals at Tullinge the other weekend,
the race-season is FAR from over...
Saturday 22 September it was time for the almost classical Street finals at Lunda airfield.
I spent the whole morning building a simple (but effective) wateraddition to the intercooler.
For some reason it took a little more time to build than I had expected,
even thoe it was verry simply made.
When the pedal reaches the metal, the pedal also presses down the little button,
so that a windscreen-washer-pump starts to provide the meganozle with fresh water...
As I eventually got to Lunda at 15:10, the race had already started.
It was supose to start 15:00, but usually it starts atleast 30 minuts after that...
Well well, not much to do about that,
after the actuall race, there were lots of free race time.
I couldn't resist not running against Elvis Cherry.
This race ended just as I needed for my selfconfidence...
...I outran Elvis with quite good margin this time.
Elvis blamed his feulpump for loosing, and he couldn't fix it at the race,
so I had to be satisfied with that result.
After racing against Elvis I had the oportunity to insult some other cars too...
Towards the end of the day,
a guy called Anders came up to me and asked what plans I had for the evening,
and if I was intrested in racing in Avesta, aprox. 170-190 km from Stockholm.
After considering my options, go home doing nothing, or joining them to Avesta,
I choose the later option.
I wasn't sure if there were going to completely waste of time and money going there,
but as soon I and Anders whom I gave a lift in the Cherry, got to the "track" in Avesta,
I knew it was worth the trip...
Guess what I found at the parkinglot?
Oh, yes! Another Nissan Cherry Turbo!
I have been in contact with a guy called Lars in that area of Sweden,
but this was a new one driven by a cool guy called Martin.
The car belonged to his girlfriend, but he had taken care of the car for a while.
Lars Cherry wouldn't start as he was going to the race, so he got there in a anonymous car.
Only a short while after we got there, the managers of the race started colecting names.
My name was almost at the list before I got there,
since Anders had called them in advance to tell them abot the Wok being on it's way.
The race was set up so that the first run was a qualifying run.
A win in the first race, would get you to the A-class,
a lost in the first run, would get you to B-class for less powerfull cars.
Naturally I qualifyed for A-class, so I got pushed out of that tournament quite fast,
among the cars in A-class apart from bigblock-Americans,
there were a BMW that did 10,06 s./402 meters, last time he was at Tullinge.
...never the less, after the race was over, I and Martin had a couple of mach-races.
-That was FUN!
(do I have to say more?)
After that I and Lars went home to his place to get some sleep...
He was just going to give his car an extra chance to start,
and since it did start this time (Cherrys are that way)
we just HAD to get out on the main road outside his house to measure our cars!
During that i lost my whaterpump-belt, so at 02:00 we gave up.
My car was the fastest Cherry in the district and we were both in great need of some sleep.
Sundaymorning (or atleast just before noon) we got out trying to find me a new genrator-belt,
but with no luck. After a while we agreed that I could by the belt that was fitted in his car.
The price for that belt was a bottle of oil, since his car tryed to run dry on our way home...
...therefor theese pictures were a must:
After exhanging bottles and belts, I went back to the little city Avesta to meet Martin again.
Martin seems to have lots of things going on all the time,
During a couple of cups of coffie there were a steady stream of people coming by from last nights race,
Some just to say hi, others to talk to Martin or me (yes thats true) about last nights race...
Before leaving Martin, I took a couple of pictures on his Cherry...
...pardon, his girlsfriends Cherry.
Around 17:00 I stopped by the grand dalahorse just outside Avesta,
to get something to eat during the drive...
...and the aime was set towards Görla in Norrtälje (only 100 km from home)
Since Elvis was going to be there and the car was still working,
so I couldn't see any reasons why not.
I just had to see if he had repaired his car like he said he had...
...and unfortunally, he had.
I lost most of the races against Elvis, but I was closer than ever before.
I ran against a couple of other cars too, but most of the time,
it was just me and Elvis racing against each other...
We raced until my clutch wasn't doing much else but slipping,
and until Elvis engine got the fatal warning sound of a main bearing singing it's last prayer...
-After stayng at the track talking about the next season for aprox an hour after all the others left
it was finally time to go home!
I got home at 23:00 Sunday evening, rather hungry and verry tired...
...but at the same time verry satisfied with a well spent weekend!
In total, I traveled aprox. 650 km during the weekend,
pasticipated at three different raceevents, without any major problems...
...and that's with a car pretty well tuned and without any interior.
Now I will probably invest in a raceperformance clutch...
Thats all for now,
but there are still events left to particiate at.
The pictures I haven't taken myselfe, I've got from:
Anders Persson at www.racemaniacs.com
Markus Ek at ek.nitrodox.net
och Rejsson in Avsta
-Thanks!
