Bilsport Action Meet 31 July-1 August 2009
After bringing home the largest cup from Poland there were two weeks until Actionmeet.
All that had to be done to the car was to renovate the gearbox.
Third gears synchro was split into pieces and as we had it apart
we shanged to cast iron forks with nylon bushings.
We have used brass forks until now but they seemed to have lost their shape,
wich I doubt iron will.
We also went to Mantorp one week before Actionmeet to look at the European Championship Veidec Festival
and visit friends in the pits.
Friday morning August 31 it was our turn to take advantage of Mantorps well prepped track.
On our way there Nalle got a flat tyre on his Dodge van. His spare was from a Chevy van,
so we had to go and find a garage who could sell us and mount a new tyre asap.
It was pretty easy since it was on regular opening hours, and we could keep on our journey.
The weather was pretty much perfect and the sun was shining,
but the closer we came to Mantorp the darker the clouds got and as we went off the highway it started to rain.
GAH!
Should the weather destroy the opening of this years event at Mantorp like it did last year?
It sure looked that way.
Last year it was alot warmer and contained more wasps but apart from that we all fealt familiar with 2008.
This year the scrutteneering went verry well, but the track never entirely dryed up
and around 16.00 the crew gave up and closed the track.
They had beer tents and live music but I belive irish coffie and live fire would have ben more apropriate.
Saturday morning the weather was finaly great again.
We did four runs in total at Mantorp 2009.
(One timeslip is lost)
Like all other times at Mantorp when we tryed to set new records we failed.
First round was the quickest. Not quick enough but still the quickest.
Then we just ran slower and slower.
The car was mainly set up for the unprepped concrete at Kjula,
where it works really well. We didnt want to change too much settings
since we were going to Kjula the verry next day for a nother race.
Even if not quick enough to set any new records,
I think it was an ok run after all.
0,18 sec in reaction and 1,60 in 60ft isnt all that bad.
The low speed of 205kmh tells us there is something about the engine thats not all great...
An issue with Mantorp that we keep having trouble is the traction.
Its just too darn good and we keep having problems with the car bogging.
Ok, I know that is not possible.
Its like saying; Whoho, this water is just soo dry!
Water is not dry, and the traction was not too good.
Its just that wee seem to bring too few horses every time we get to Mantorp... =)
For each run 60ft, time and speed gets worse and worse...
In normal cases it is supose to go in the oposit direction.
Slow at first and then better times during the day...
...but we are quite known not to go mainstream. =)
Of course its easy to look at it now and speculate in why we didnt just boost more,
adjust the cluch to slip more and so on, but we were happy being able to load the car in one piece.
We had to think of sundays race at Kjula too.
One possibility to get rid of the bogging would have ben to warm the tyres less,
and let the tyres spin some in the start
but thats a part of the starting procedure and I rather not change that.
We have tryed to change details in the starting procedure in the past
and usually it turns out in nothing good at all...
